Can I learn to do Kung Fu like it is in movies and on TV? Kung Fu, and other martial arts, are often glamorized and exaggerated. Real Kung Fu takes years of hard work and practice. In real Kung Fu there is no leaping across canyons or deflecting bullets with one's palms. It is a serious art and can be a serious sport. |

Is the Kung Fu at ZYKFA an effective form of self-defense? Kung Fu is taught as a very effective form of self-defense at ZYKFA. First and most importantly, we teach how to avoid fights and confrontations. We also teach how to resolve confrontations if they do occur. If a confrontation does turn to violence, the Kung Fu taught at ZYKFA teaches methods to resolve these violent acts quickly and decisively. These methods of self-defense have evolved for hundred years in China and were used by the military, police and bodyguards on a daily basis. The ZYKFA beleives in training being based on application, not just form. |

What does "Zhong Yi" mean? The Mandarin term "Zhong Yi" has no English equivalent, but can best be translated as "loyalty and virtue" or "righteousness", this is something that the members of the Association strive for in being an upstanding citizen through the martial arts practice. The Association is much more like a family than most martial arts schools. In fact, the honorary titles that refer to the instructor and senior students translate to "head-of-family," "older brother," and "older sister." |

Tell me more about the Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association. The Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association was founded by Shifu Nelson Ferreira (a martial arts practitioner since 1975) in October of 1995, as a way to continue handing down the art as it was given to him, through practice and perseverance. The Association teaches the Northern Shao Lin style of Kung Fu (Bei Shao Lin Chuan). |
