Class Descriptions: Those interested in joining the Association are encouraged to come and observe our classes.
Shao Lin classes are for beginner and experienced students. The first part of each class consists of stretching, chi gong (breathing exercise), as well as moving and stationary kicking and punching drills. The second part of each class is organized practice time for forms, application of technique, chin na (seizing and apprehension), or conditioning.
Youth Shao Lin classes are also similar to the regular Shao Lin class in format, but shorter in duration and organized with younger students in mind. Ages range from 7 to 14.
Lei Tai Team Practice(Sparring) classes are an invitation only. Practice is for intermediate and advanced students to work on San Shou or sparring (Kuoshu rules). Attendees wear protective gear, and the instructor closely monitors practice.
Taolu Team Practice is a practice for the Tao Lu competition team (all levels). Class space is limited to those on the team, but all are welcome to observe.
Lion Dance & Drumming classes are for the practice of traditional Chinese lion dancing and performance drumming. The lion dance team has many performances throughout the year. New students are encouraged to attend. Classes are held on a seasonal basis.
Qing Da (Light Contact) this practice is designed for those interested in taking the first steps into the Lei Tai program or just wanting to enjoy light sparring sessions to sharpen their skills. Students must have tested for their sash (1 to 3 months of training) to enter this program.
Pi Ci (Weapon Sparring) class is designed to allow students to explore the weapon techniques they learn in a contact environment. Students wear protective gear and specially designed padded weapons for safety. Students are restricted to using techniques that they learn in their sets during sparring (must have learned at least one weapon set to participate).
Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) class is based on basic exercises and two person drills of the Chen Style of Taijiquan. This class is taught by Shifu Paul Brennan.
Stretching class is a 45 minute workout designed to increase the flexibility and range of motion for people of all ages. This class takes place of the first 45 minutes of the Friday Shao Lin class.
Private Lessons available upon request for students looking for more in-depth knowledge of a specific skill. Duration is half an hour per lesson.
Chinese Language Classes designed for ZYKFA members to learn Mandarin through weekly classes on Saturdays with the Chinese Language Institute's (Taiwan) curricullum. |
